Hillebrand Photography Blog bio picture

Our Background

Husband and wife photography team, Gabe and Jennifer Hillebrand, have a combined 30-plus year history in fine art and photojournalistic photography.

Jennifer grew up in Metro Detroit and has a Bachelor of Arts from the fine and performing arts school, Emerson College located in Boston, Massachusetts. There, she studied Photography, Theatre, and Writing. No stranger to the entertainment industry and having worked commercially as a print model and actress, Jennifer began her photography career in Boston photographing celebrity musicians, album covers for bands, and portfolios for aspiring actors and models.

Born in and raised in one of the nation's most art-centric regions, the twin cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul, Gabe attended Bethel University where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art and Art History. From there, he made his way to Michigan to attend the internationally renowned Cranbrook Academy of Art where he earned his Master of Fine Arts, was selected to have his photography featured at the Hudson Valley of Contemporary Art in New York, and married Jennifer.

Our Style of Photography

We specialize in wedding photojournalism, lifestyle portraiture, fashion and editorial-style photography.  Stepping into your world, we photograph you in your environment, your life, your style. We are inspired by art, fashion, nature and most importantly, our subjects. We love uncovering the elements that make each person, couple, or family distinct from the next. Using the camera, it's our goal to see and to show those profound and beautiful things.

The end result? Photographs that are unique. Photographs that are you.

Smith Family Portraits

This family portrait session makes me smile for several reasons. One is because the Smiths are family, and it’s always really great to photograph familiar faces. Another reason is because these kids, my cousins, are hilarious and adorable. Especially Dylan, the little guy. We had riot with them on a gorgeous and unusually warm fall evening at Van Hoosen Farm in Rochester. Afterward, the kids changed into their pj’s and had a good time jumping on mom and dad’s bed. This was great for us, too, because it gave us an opportunity to do some fun indoor stuff heading into the cold winter season! The Smiths truly are an awesome and fun-loving family. Enjoy their pics, they will surely leave you smiling! :)
