Selah: 3 Month Session

Time continues to race by and our baby girl is getting bigger by the day! Literally. Because we’ve been so busy we haven’t had a chance to work on our own personal projects, such as Selah Gabriel’s 3 month portraits which we photographed in November. Next month she will be 6 months old already and that is another photo shoot! Ah well. So goes our lives with a baby and a business in tow. Here are a few favorite snapshots from our little peanut’s 3 month session! Enjoy!!

2011 Year-in-Review

Since a picture is worth a thousand words we decided to sum 2011 up with some of our favorite pics of the year, professional and personal. In addition to shooting our usual portion of weddings and portraits, we moved into our first house, got our first dog, and had our first baby. It was one.crazy.year…filled with amazing clients, gorgeous imagery, and many blessings. From the bottom of our hearts, THANK YOU to all who have chosen us and continue to choose us to document your most precious events, moments, and people. Your lives inspire us. Looking forward to more beauty and life in 2012!

Introducing Selah Gabriel

On August 28th of this year, at 2:59 am, we welcomed our beautiful little girl, Selah (pronounced “say-la”) Gabriel, into the world. She was 7 pounds, 7 ounces, 20 inches long, and especially alert for a newborn. We think she’s a prodigy, but then again, we might be a little biased. Her name is from the book of Psalms and the Hebrew definition is still largely unknown. It has been said to mean “to pause and reflect,” “musical crescendo,” “to discern and perceive truth,” “praise and lift up,” “true gold,” and “forever.” It’s a mysterious word and that might be one of the reasons we love it so much. Below are some highlights from her newborn session, and no, it was not easy photographing our own child! In fact, it was the hardest newborn session we ever did. She is not an easy baby. Good thing she’s cute. We also had to sneak a few pics of the nursery in there since we spent so much time putting it together. The adorable birds-on-a-wire painting was a gift from our very talented and dear friend, Jennifer Mancier. You can find more of her work by clicking here! Valerie & Ryan

It was a pleasure to celebrate the 10th anniversary of our dear friends Valerie and Ryan this past January. Valerie, who works for the University of Michigan, and Ryan, a faculty member at Eastern Michigan University, are an absolute joy. Originating from Texas where they lived in the laid-back, lovely Austin, they have that cool, sweet, and friendly Austin deposition. They’re just good folks and are people that you want to be around. The party, held at the unique and all together wonderful Pot and Box in Ann Arbor, included much dancing and a yummy spread featuring many interesting foods, including a 10th anniversary wedding cake made from scratch by the fabulous Abigail of Gus and Other Things. Valerie and Ryan: You two are beautiful people inside and out. Thanks for being in our lives. It was a pleasure to document your special event and we hope that these images make you smile for years to come. May blessings and good things come to you always!!

2010 was a crazy, awesome year. We’ve made so many memories and are honored to have been a part of so many of your lives. Newlyweds: enjoy your very first Christmas as husband and wife, make it a memorable one! Newlyborns: you are the best present your parents could’ve hoped for. To our engaged couples for 2011: this upcoming year is going to be among the most exciting years of your life and we are so happy to be a part of it with you. We want to thank you, our clients, friends, and fans for all of your love and support. Enjoy a few snapshots of Michigan’s first snow of the year. Have a Relaxing Thanksgiving

If your lives are anything like ours, then you’re probably ready for a little rest and relaxation. Have a little turkey, a little pie (or a lot of turkey and a lot of pie) enjoy your family and take a nap. On this day of gratitude, food, and rest, we want to take this opportunity to thank our clients, fans and friends for being so awesome and supportive of our work. We are truly inspired by you. The Recreate Project

I was beyond honored when Shannon Decker asked me to contribute to The Recreate Project, a silent auction where local artists “recreate” a famous work of art. The show will benefit two extraordinary organizations: Invisible Children, dedicated to ending the use of child soldiers in Uganda, and To Write Love on Her Arms, helping those who struggle with depression, addiction, self-injury and suicide. It will also include performances by local musicians, including the very talented singer-songwriter Nate Marialke, whom we recently photographed for his latest album cover work, (click here to see his images!) The work that I’ve contributed was inspired by the great American West photographer, Ansel Adams. The images are from a series I did when I lived on a traditional, Montana dude ranch in the summer of 2002. Just before the release of digital SLR cameras, they were shot in film and make me nostalgic for the old school days of film photography and darkrooms…

Please come out and join us this Friday, August 13th at The District in Lake Orion! The art will be auctioned from 8 – 10 pm. See you there!!
