2011 Year-in-Review

Since a picture is worth a thousand words we decided to sum 2011 up with some of our favorite pics of the year, professional and personal. In addition to shooting our usual portion of weddings and portraits, we moved into our first house, got our first dog, and had our first baby. It was one.crazy.year…filled with amazing clients, gorgeous imagery, and many blessings. From the bottom of our hearts, THANK YOU to all who have chosen us and continue to choose us to document your most precious events, moments, and people. Your lives inspire us. Looking forward to more beauty and life in 2012!

Valentina

Valentina is a beautiful, talented 15 year-old singer and actress who we had the pleasure of photographing earlier this fall. A student at Eisenhower High School, Valentina is heading down to Orlando, Florida to audition for the Walt Disney company. She’ll be among many young hopefuls looking to land a role on a Disney cable show, movie or maybe even get a recording contract. It was so fun to shoot her in a variety of looks and locations, and she looks amazing no matter what she’s wearing! As always, we want to give a special thanks to Patricia Oltean of PS Cosmetics in downtown Rochester for doing yet another impeccable job with make-up! Jon Ross

Last month, we had an amazing time photographing aspiring producer and recording artist, Jon Ross. Originating from Texas, Jon moved up to the Detroit area to pursue his music career (he’s currently developing his company, Third Eye Music Group), as well as to complete a business program at Oakland University. It was a bright, hot, sunny afternoon when we photographed him downtown Detroit in a few of our favorite places, and he came equipped with plenty of props and stuff for us to play with. As far as his tastes in music go, here it is in his own words:

“At the moment I’m almost exclusively listening to artists on UKF Dubstep but I go through a lot of different phases. I’ve enjoy listening to all genres of music, from hip-hop to screamo to pop, electronic, sometimes even country. I appreciate music as an art in its purest form. If I had to choose, I’d say electronic music seems to resonate with me the most, followed by hip-hop. I guess you could say I’m attracted to the raw, emotional aspects that are associated with those two genres.”

It’s always invigorating to work in tangent with other artists, whether they’re musicians, actors, or models, because they bring their own creative energy that we thrive on. The end result from one of these artist sessions is always liberating and inspiring. Fashion Shoot for Katerina Bocci

When acclaimed couture designer Katerina Bocci approached us last fall about doing a fashion shoot, we were thrilled. It was such a pleasure working with Katerina as well as the hair and make-up stylists from Runway Salon and Clint McClennan for the studio set-up. Katerina’s stunning and fairy-tale-like dresses were the inspiration for the shoot. We wanted the images to have an ethereal quality to them with a bride seemingly suspended in mid-air, as if in a dream. After all, anyone who’s ever been a bride knows that the wedding day experience is just like that, it’s like a dream and as if you’re walking on air. The images below are featured as full page ads in the current issues of Grace Ormonde Wedding Style and Inside Weddings! Enjoy and be sure to pick up a copy of the magazines soon!

Nate Marialke

We were so honored to work with the incredibly talented Nate Marialke in creating images for his latest album. Nate and his breathtakingly beautiful muse and wife, Katherine, are the music directors at Rochester First Assembly of God in Rochester, Michigan. (Special thanks again to Patricia at P.S. Cosmetics in downtown Rochester for doing a fabulous make-up job on Kat!) On a perfectly sunny, spring evening, we had a wonderful time working with them to create imagery for Nate’s new album (working title: Your Kingdom Come). We absolutely love the artistic freedom that comes with photographing musicians, actors, dancers…artists of any kind! Angela Robitaille

Angela is an interesting and reflective girl who’s not just another pretty face. Having grown up in the Detroit-area, she recently completed college in L.A. and is now seeking a career as a film actress and model. She’s definitely got “the look.” (Special thanks again to P.S. Cosmetics in downtown Rochester for doing another fabulous make-up job for our client!) This was an awesome shoot for us because it allowed me to return to my roots as a photographer in Boston where I was shooting actors, musicians and rock stars (yep, literally rock stars). It was also great for Gabe because not only did he get to work with a smokin’ hot model, but there’s always a lot of creative freedom on these types of shoots. With the film industry booming in Michigan, Angela will be seeking representation from local agencies like The Talent Shop for film, print and fashion. Here are a few of our favorite looks from the day!
